H. Arthur Steiner Undergraduate Scholarship for Asian Studies (any major)
The H. Arthur Steiner Undergraduate Scholarship was created in honor of UCLA Political Science Professor H. Arthur Steiner, who was a preeminent expert on China and India in the field of international relations. His research philosophy and holistic mentorship were guided by a commitment to multidisciplinary perspectives, such as reading newspapers and official documents as well as literary and cultural texts, and a firm belief in immersive study in the languages and cultures of Asia. Two awards of $2000 each will be made to undergraduate students in their third or fourth year pursuing Asian studies from multidisciplinary perspectives. Scholarship funds may support summer study or research projects, study abroad, international internships, or senior capstone projects or honors theses. Applicants should submit a statement of purpose describing their proposed activity and discuss how the scholarship will support their studies and future career goals in advancing knowledge and understanding of Asia and the Pacific region. Eligibility: UCLA undergraduate students who are in their third and fourth year pursuing Asian studies from multidisciplinary perspectives. Application materials include: -Proposal of 2-3 pages (double-spaced) which details their proposed activity, academic and career goals, what coursework, research and personal experiences led to their specific area of interest, and how the scholarship will help them to complete their studies and achieve future aspirations. -Unofficial UCLA transcript (minimum GPA of 3.5 required) -CV/Resume -Letter of recommendation from a UCLA faculty member The Asia Pacific Center is grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Willock for their generous funding of these awards.
